4-way Stop Sign

Dear Residents,

Driving home last night at 8:30 pm was challenging, with visibility down to 20 feet or so through the fog and snow. It was hard to see the "Stop" sign at the four-way intersection at Traverse Ridge Road, SunCrest Drive, and Deer Ridge. Even in good weather, many of us have seen vehicles go through that intersection without stopping, some without slowing at all. This is a hazard for other motorists and especially for pedestrians trying to cross the intersection.

There have been accidents there before, and will be again unless something is done to increase the visibility of the "Stop" signs. I have asked the Draper City Council to consider installing flashing stop signs at that intersection (just lighted stop signs, not a traffic signal or overhead light). The Council is considering a solar-powered model, which may be cheaper to operate and easier to install than running underground electric cables to the signs.

The Council will be discussing this issue at their next meeting, this coming Tuesday beginning at 7 pm in the Council chambers at Draper City Hall on Pioneer Road. If you have an opinion regarding this proposal, please let me know or consider attending and speaking to the City Council during the citizen comment period. This is a chance to make our voices heard and ask Council members to respond to citizens' concerns.
In fact, the Council may not act unless it is evident that many of us support this proposal.

Thanks,
Barbara Blackmer

The only concern I would have on the flashing lights would be if the residents near the intersection would have to endure the flashing at all hours if they could even see them. Would putting a "Stop Ahead" sign work just as well? Just a thought. I do agree something needs to be done, but am hesitant with lights of any kind.

A flashing stop would be great! Much better than a stop light where the majority of the time there is not that much traffic to warrant a traffic light. A better alternative, since they will be rebuilding Deer Ridge oad next year, would be a roundabout.

I'm glad to see someone else has seen this potential hazard. I support this proposal 100% as I've seen way too many cars speed right on through the intersection and a few close calls. My husband has also witnessed cars flying through the intersection. However, I'm afraid nothing will get done until a serious accident occurs. I would prefer we take a more proactive approach; I really like the flashing stop signs.

These stop signs are hideous and unnecessary. If you don't know to stop at a four way you should not have a drivers license. Just coming up to a four way you should know what to do with or without the existense of a sign. In the over 5 years of living in Suncrest I've yet to see an accident at this location not to say there hasn't been, but obviously not a reoccuring problem.I personally don't need the wasted expense of this haunting my conscience every time I come to this stop. Living in the mountainous rustic lifestyle of Suncrest is a choice. They don't waste money with this up any of the canyons, or in Park City, wich is pretty much the same elevation. You might as well install neon blinking lights. This decision should have been voted on by our supposed community before being brought to the city council. The opinion of one does not always suit all. Whats next are we going to have neon blinking solar lights placed on all the poor deer that aren't seen until it's too late... I would personally like to sell these unnecessary eyesores back to the purchaser and do something worthwhile with that money, like send it to those in need. I'm sure the people and children of Haiti could put it to better use... As for us as residents living in an area known to have these conditions, maybe we could take on our own responsibilities like slow down, put our cell phones aside, and pay attention~
